摘要

Upper endoscopies or esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD) are routinely performed to evaluate the upper gastrointestinal tract for diagnostic, screening, and therapeutic purposes. Over the past few decades, quality metrics for upper endoscopies have continuously been refined by gastrointestinal societies with updated guidelines to ensure endoscopists are providing high-quality care, yielding excellent diagnostic or therapeutic results, and mitigating the risk of adverse events. In this chapter, we highlight best practices in the realm of pre- and post-procedure management surrounding upper endoscopies, techniques to allow high-quality upper endoscopies, and specific scenarios in which quality metrics are essential.
