Quality in Colonoscopy

Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer morbidity and mortality worldwide. Screening for colorectal cancer and removal of precancerous polyps via colonoscopy have contributed in part to declining rates of colon cancer this millennium. There is great emphasis on measures to increase the quality and effectiveness of colonoscopy. These have been divided into pre-procedural quality metrics, intra-procedural quality metrics, and post-procedural metrics. The purpose of this chapter is to review the data for each of these metrics and identify ways to optimize the performance of colonoscopy.
