摘要

Lower gastrointestinal motility disorders are common worldwide and have significant impact on the daily function and quality of life of patients with these conditions. Though there is limited evidence of clearly defined and evidence-based quality indicators of care in patients with lower gastrointestinal motility disorders, it is important that high-quality care is provided to this patient group to improve outcomes. This chapter will discuss the evaluation and management of patients with lower gastrointestinal motility disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, fecal incontinence, and opioid-induced bowel dysfunction with a focus on the avoidance of unnecessary investigations and the use of evidence-based therapies.
