Quality in Management of GI Bleeding

摘要

While there are several society guidelines that inform the care of patients with gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, there are only a limited number of defined quality measures and indicators. While there has been a move to develop quality metrics in non-variceal upper GI bleeding, there are far fewer quality indicators in lower GI bleeding, and none for small bowel bleeding. In this chapter, we highlight the most impactful guideline recommendations, discuss previously suggested quality indicators, and explore additional aspects of quality in the treatment of GI bleeding. We discuss medical management of all patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, management of anticoagulation and anti-platelets, risk stratification, timing of endoscopy, endoscopic management of GI bleeding, and procedural documentation.
