Catherine of Lancaster and Marian Poets in the Cancionero de Baena
摘要
The chapter looks at similarities between English and Castilian poets, beginning with the circles of poets in both courts. It examines key categories of Marian themes in the Cancionero de Baena songbook, including the Annunciation and Salutation of the Virgin, Nativity lyrics as well as Assumption and Coronation lyrics, Joys of the Virgin and lyrics on Mary as mediatrix. It also addresses the role of the Virgin at the Passion. Doctrinal verse in Baena includes the debate series on the subject of the Sanctification of the Virgin. These verses are the first ones penned by a Dominican poet. The final category is poetic games.
