The medial side of the knee is mainly composed of the superficial tibial collateral ligament (s-TCL), capsular ligaments such as the deep TCL(d-TCL), the posterior oblique ligament (POL), the anterior oblique ligament (AOL), the distal insertions of the semimembranosus muscle, and the pes anserinus. The complex semimembranosus insertions are closely related to the posterior capsule, medial meniscus, the tibia, the femur, and the TCL and dynamizes them. The preponderance of that structure for the medial side of the knee justifies the term semimembranosus corner.
