Acute Hamstring Injury: Types, Rehabilitation, and Return to Sports
摘要
Hamstring strain injuries are one of the most common injuries in field-based sports and sports that involve sprinting. While the time lost to injury is short on the individual level compared to other major lower extremity injuries, the high prevalence and elevated risks of reinjury makes prevention and management of hamstring strain injuries key for optimizing athlete performance. This chapter will outline the common mechanisms of injury and risk factors associated with hamstring strain injuries. The recommendations for management of athletes after injury including initial clinical assessment, rehabilitation, and return to sport training, as well as the evidence behind primary and secondary prevention of hamstring strain injuries are discussed.
