Hamstring injuries have continued to beleaguer both professional and recreational athletes alike. The incidence and prevalence of hamstring injuries has been well established in the recent literature, as they are among the most common soft tissue injuries reported in sport. The time loss due to injury and the inherent rate of injury occurrence pose a challenging issue to the athlete, negatively impacting their career longevity and the performance of their respective team and pose significant socioeconomic burdens to both the injured athlete and their respective club. In the last few decades, sports injury prevention research has shown that the Nordic hamstring eccentric exercise and exercise-based injury prevention programs can effectively reduce the risk of hamstring injuries in sub-elite and amateur athletes. Compliance and adherence to these protocols are crucial to ensure successful implementation and fidelity, which continues to pose a significant challenge in the real world of sports injury mitigation. There is need for a context-specific and multi-level approach to move injury prevention strategies into practice.
