The hip joint is a common location of pain in the general population as well as in athletes. Numerous causes of hip pain exist and must be critically examined to determine various sources and to rule out differentials. Stress fractures of the hip are becoming increasingly common as more people are becoming physically active. Diagnosis is not always straightforward as these injuries often mimic other hip musculotendinous problems such as muscular strains. Imaging for stress fractures usually involves some combination of radiographs, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and at times radionuclide bone scans. Stress fractures of the sacrum, pelvis, and femur are generally treated with rest and active rehabilitation. However, there are times when surgical management may be warranted.
