Psychological Aspects of Sport Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation
摘要
In this chapter, psychological aspects are examined across the full temporal spectrum of sports injuries, from injury occurrence through rehabilitation and return to sport. Initially, potential psychological contributions to the occurrence of sports injuries are summarized and information on the efficacy of psychological interventions for injury prevention and the importance of adherence to other preventive interventions is presented. Cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses to sports injuries are then described. Finally, the role of psychological factors in sports injury rehabilitation processes and outcomes is discussed, with emphasis on adherence to sports injury rehabilitation programs, psychological predictors of sports injury rehabilitation outcomes, and the effects of psychological interventions on sports injury rehabilitation processes and outcomes. It is concluded that although psychological interventions are not, for the most part, widely used explicitly in the prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries, they hold considerable promise in reducing the injury risk and enhancing the postinjury well-being of athletes.
