Recent Advances in the Application of Biosurfactants in Wastewater Treatment

摘要

A variety of microorganisms, such as yeast and bacteria, naturally produce biosurfactants. The eco-friendly characteristics and wide range of uses of these surface-active compounds, especially in wastewater treatment, have drawn attention. Many microorganisms are known to create biosurfactants, including Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and yeast species. There are many different types of biosurfactants with different properties and uses thanks to this diversity of microbes. Biosurfactants are essential for the treatment of wastewater. They help extract hydrophobic impurities from water, such as oils and organic substances. In biological treatment processes, biosurfactants increase the bioavailability of contaminants, increasing their accessibility to microorganisms. Additionally, biosurfactants can be utilized to make stable emulsions and foams, which are beneficial for the removal of contaminants in procedures like flotation and foam separation.
