摘要

The creation of the British Trade Corporation in 1917 had been supported by some of the largest companies in heavy engineering, shipbuilding, and steel production. However, when the corporation needed help in 1922–1923, these industrial companies were either unable or unwilling to assist. In addition, during 1922, several directors, who were also directors of industrial companies, resigned from the Board. While the corporation had experienced major setbacks overseas, on the home front its investment in the Trade Indemnity Company had been very successful, and there had also been some successes as an issuing house. Were there any domestic options that might have resulted in a better way forward for the British Trade Corporation?
