Discrimination Between Microscopy Images Using Digital Speckle Images

In this chapter, digital speckle imaging using random diffusers is considered useful for coding microscopy images. Three images of the SIDA virus, bone marrow, and red blood cells (erythrocytes) were investigated. We apply the FFT to multiply the image and the diffuser function to convolve the Fourier spectrum of the image and the Fourier spectrum of the diffuser. This resulted in a modulated speckle pattern compared with the ordinary speckle pattern formed from the diffraction of the random diffuser alone. The contrasts for the different speckle images and their profiles are plotted for the three microscopy images. In addition, reconstruction or decoding of the images from the speckle images is performed via the inverse FT operation. The transformation of either color or grayscale images into binary images allows us to obtain better images in the reconstruction process. The reconstructed images are subjected to a rotation of 1800 to obtain a replica of the input images. All the images used in the processing were constructed using MATLAB code.
