Thyroid Basics

Today we have a better understanding of the thyroid than ever before. Knowledge has accumulated over thousands of years about the structure and function of the this gland at an ever accelerating pace. This however has been a bumpy ride and at times false beliefs led scholars astray. This chapter explains what we know about the thyroid by tracing the historical footprints of that journey.
