Aging Individuals and Their Capability to Adopt Green Lifestyles
摘要
Achieving sustainability is the prime objective of this day and age for all societies across nations and cultures, however the world is aging decade by decade and aging as a phenomenon has deep implications on the creation of sustainable societies that have lesser carbon emission. This interconnection of aging and sustainability is poorly understood as of now. Aging societies have a tendency to become more consumption oriented. As individuals age, they naturally desire and require more comforts which leads to more carbon footprints and carbon emission dependent life. The answer to this question is obviously the green lifestyle adoption. However adopting a green lifestyle or any other lifestyle would depend on various psychological as well as circumstantial factors as we understand the human behavior change dynamics. Therefore it behooves us to understand the general and mental wellbeing of older individuals, and special situations associated with them like daily spiritual experiences, depression etc. Studies have shown that depression in the elderly is further linked with cognitive decline and risk of Alzheimer’s Disease which indicates how deeply it is linked with individual wellbeing. The current research is divided into three stages in order to understand the interconnections of the lifestyle—how a more or less greener lifestyle, less carbon dependent life interplays with the general wellbeing, mental wellbeing of aged individuals and situations like spiritual experiences and depression among them leading to find solutions towards adoption of green and less carbon dependent life among aged individuals which is the exact antidote to the riddle of achieving sustainability in the globally aging scenario.
