The Importance of Resilience in Engineering Education

The topic of resilience has been in the spotlight in recent years. Resilient workers can adapt to a changing environment, cope with stress, maintain motivation for their work, and manage conflict situations. This is a skill that can be developed and in which educational institutions have a major role to play. For engineers of the twenty-first century, in the period of IR4 and IR5, it is of paramount importance to have this skill. In our research, we investigated resilience skills among Hungarian engineering students. We used the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. The relationships between the field of study, the time spent online, the type of education, and the level of resilience of the participants in higher education have been investigated. The impact of gender and generation of students on the time spent online and the level of resilience has been analyzed. It has also looked at the relationship between place of residence, highest level of education of parents, and level of resilience.
