Artificial Intelligence and Oocyte/Embryo Assessment in Cryopreservation Cycles

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an emerging field that leverages data and algorithms to mimic the problem-solving capabilities of the human mind. Its use in reproductive medicine promises to optimize processes involved in in vitro fertilization (IVF) and cryopreservation cycles. AI has been applied to assess oocytes and embryos to assist clinical workflow and decision-making. AI-enabled technologies are being developed to evaluate oocytes and embryos at each stage of development, predict downstream outcomes, and automate common tasks within the IVF lab. AI can be used to replicate current processes within IVF labs in an accurate and time-efficient manner and to step beyond human capabilities to predict outcomes and allow for future planning. The advent of AI has led to a plethora of innovations in reproductive medicine, and it can improve clinical care. In this chapter, we will explore AI’s current and future role in oocyte and embryo assessment in cryopreservation cycles.
