Establishing a Donor Oocyte Cryobank Network: US Experience
摘要
For individuals who require donor oocytes to realize their family-building goals, the ability to acquire cryopreserved oocytes alleviates the rigors of treatment with fresh donor oocytes: the need for cycle synchronization that often leaves the recipient at the mercy of the donor’s availability for ovarian stimulation and retrieval, considerable expenses, and, frequently, a limited number of donors from which to choose. A structured and standardized program for training in the array of technical procedures of oocyte vitrification, warming, handling, and transport coupled with a system of recordkeeping and tracking for quality assurance, and the administration of finances, marketing, and social media, comprises the infrastructure for a network of donor oocyte cryobanks. This model offers the advantages of scale, with provision of more choices for prospective recipients at accessible cost through a cooperative, highly interactive, and mutually supportive matrix of laboratories and clinics committed to best outcomes for patients building their families using donor oocytes.
