Science, Morality, and the Roman Economy

摘要

Scientific approaches are becoming an increasingly popular way of modeling and thinking about the Roman economy. This chapter suggests that this move may help with creating more ethical or morally sensitive ways of understanding ancient economic change and development. I focus on this potential with regard to two fields—complexity science and environmental science—and offer illustrations drawn from the study of Roman Italy.
