Work-Integrated Learning: A TVET Experience

  • Patricia Ningi Sibisi

摘要

This chapter investigate the difficulties and debates that surround the implementation of Integrated Learning in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in South Africa. According to the findings, the success of Integrated Learning is dependent on addressing issues such as inadequate resources and infrastructure, insufficient teacher training, and a lack of support from employers. The importance of industry and educational institutions working together, the dedication of lecturers and administrators, and a willingness to modify the approach to meet the requirements of a variety of different contexts was emphasised throughout the chapter. It was determined that the Transformative Learning Theory is a useful framework for guiding the development and implementation of Work-Integrated Learning programmes. The chapter provides a number of recommendations, some of which are to encourage transformative learning, empowerment of lecturers, improve policy-making processes, promote collaboration, and accept technological advancements. In addition, the chapter makes a suggestion for an area of further research, which is to investigate the effect that TLT-based WIL programmes have over the long term on students’ career trajectories and personal development. This chapter offers insights for policymakers, lecturers, and TVET managing boards in South Africa and beyond, on how to design and implement effective WIL programmes that prepare students for success in the workforce and promote social change.
