An Unusual Case of Paradoxical Embolus

A paradoxical embolus travelling through a patent foramen ovale is to be considered as a possible cause of ischaemic stroke in cryptogenic cases. This is particularly in the case of young patients with stroke where it more likely to be a potential cause than in older patients (i.e. over 65 years old). This chapter includes a case description of a patient with stroke due to paradoxical embolus post operatively which occurs less frequently in clinical practice. We include a discussion of the evaluation of the case and possible treatment options.
