Escaping Townscape—British Architects and Urban Morphology

This chapter reflects on the possible reasons for the neglect of the concepts of urban morphology by British architects, in stark contrast to the number of French and Italian architects whose writings in the last decades of the twentieth century have been central to the development of the International Seminar on Urban Form (ISUF). It discusses aspects of their contributions to the design of the urban environment and concludes by considering the relevance of these concepts to current urban problems.
