Workers, Middle-Class Employees, Professionals? No, just the Working Poor!

The Indian IT industry has some basic underlying philosophies, the most important of which are the notion of productivity and that of discipline. Both these aspects have become important factors in the projected growth of the IT sector in India. The rise of the IT sector in India has not only been constrained within the IT workplaces and technology parks. It has rather initiated a social process which has captured the entire country, influencing urbanisation processes and labour reforms in various sectors and modes of employment. Most of these changes have occurred in the era of neoliberal capitalism where the competitive advantage of traditional caste-based and family-based business models has been relatively eradicated in favour of monopoly and transnational capital.
