The Exploitative Nature of the IT Spaces

IT is usually mentioned to be a sector where traditional methods of exclusion do not function like they do in the broader Indian society. The very premise of the private sector that was created in India post-1991 economic reforms was based on the meritocratic re-engineering of the Indian society. This chapter taking cognisance of the same argues that the meritocratic re-engineering of the society was structured along caste, religious, and gendered lines and fails to address the concerns of the IT workers from the marginalised sections of the society. Numerous marginalities find their place in the sector in India, with very few of them being visible within the broader contours of business or social science analysis. The chapter attempts to address that gap within the broader literature on the Indian IT workers.
