Climate Change and Future Challenges

This chapter aims to present the topic of climate change, discussing the future challenges in addressing the climate crisis. The document presents the phenomenon from a theoretical perspective, explaining how the climate system works and identifying the main causes and effects of climate variations. The concepts of vulnerability, adaptability and mitigation to climate change are also introduced. Next, the chapter explores the complex relationship between climate crisis and the built environment, focusing on buildings. Finally, the use of future climate projections in building research field is deepened, presenting the principles of climate modelling and the main tools useful to generate future climate files.
