Main Drives and Motors

This chapter presents an overview of basic concepts for application of variable speed drives and motors as they apply to the tandem hot metal strip rolling process, and thus a fully rounded out picture of control is presented. This provides a basic understanding of certain drive characteristics which can be useful wherein interactions between control and drives are necessary. Some examples are cases wherein drive loading is adjusted by control for strip gauge distribution, plus others, and thus a better understanding of drive capabilities over various ranges in torques and mill speeds would be quite useful.
