Control Overview

This chapter presents an overview of certain concepts for control of the tandem hot metal rolling process. An objective is to provide some insight into some of the basic characteristics of the process and certain related issues that might help to better understand the requirements necessary for the realization of an acceptable end product. Another objective is to provide a basis for some work as described in later chapters that would lead to further improvement in the overall operation of the mill and its output.
