Introduction

The tandem rolling of hot metal strip in a finishing mill is introduced in this chapter. The objectives of the book are presented, with an overview of what will be addressed in the following chapters that describe the control of this process including comparisons with other control methods. A brief historical background is given, followed by a short description of the tandem hot rolling finishing process and its function in the overall hot rolling process.
