Appalachian Migrant Journey: Familial, Geographical, and Intellectual

The focus of this chapter is Appalachian migrants, many of whom became urban Appalachians because they stopped moving and became permanent residents in destinations in urban areas, usually outside the region. While still maintaining a sense of their roots in the mountains, the migrants found jobs, bought homes, established churches, educated their children, and founded organizations in the receiving cities, thereby changing themselves and their destinations in meaningful ways.
