Memory and Resonance: Spatial-Temporal Values and Cultural Representations in a Silk Road Museum
摘要
The Silk Road symbolizes the connection and trade between Eastern and Western cultures and civilizations worldwide. The successful nomination of the “Silk Road” to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014 reintroduced the Silk Road culture to the world. This discussion explores the Silk Road Museum as a research object and uses context analysis to convey its unique time and space values. The processes of time and space value are embodied in the following way: (1) Location of museums along the Silk Road allows the audience to experience a sense of survival in a distant era through cultural feelings, demonstrating that human society entered the historical process of modernity both through large-scale space-time reorganization and the construction of a cultural imagination of historical space with modern characteristics. (2) Analyzing the spatial-temporal value of exhibition space uses the Museum’s “Silk Road Tour Exhibition” as an example to demonstrate the various stages of human technological progress while also demonstrating the journey of human progress in which social changes and political systems are inextricably linked. (3) Analyzing the spatial-temporal value of displays in the museums which studies the displays’ time and space, primarily to decipher the meaning and cultural remnants of the Museum’s Silk Road Exhibition Hall to investigate the exhibitions and their spatiality, which will include aspects such as pictures, stories, and morals. We demonstrate the symbolic worth of common cultural in the Silk Road idea and conclude that Chinese museums are addressing the link between historical space, cultural space, and contemporary social space as part of the present restoration of the Silk Road. Diverse spatio-temporal storytelling styles will demonstrate the brilliance and wealth of the Silk Road regions and demonstrate the Silk Road’s strength to global audiences.
