Spiral Waves in Excitable Media: Seifert Framing and Helicity

In these lecture notes I will discuss spiral waves in excitable media, producing necessary and sufficient conditions for spiral wave patterns in 2 and 3 dimensions. I will discuss Seifert framing for oriented links in 3-space, and prove that each component of an oriented link has zero individual helicity if and only if the link has Seifert framing.
