Development of the Special Professional Training System for Teachers to Work with Children with Disabilities in China

The research focuses on forming a system of special professional training for teachers to work with children with disabilities. The authors investigate the transition to the systematized implementation of undergraduate and graduate academic programs of “special education teacher” and define the “special education industry” in China. Additionally, the authors conduct a retrospective analysis of the practice of summer schools and applied form of teacher training in China, as well as the analysis of funding and regulatory framework to optimize the management of special education in terms of teacher training, including the development and implementation of a standard of professional competencies for teacher training in pedagogical universities in China in the direction of “special education.” Prospects for developing remedial education, gaps, challenges, and problems are outlined.
