Weaknesses, Threats, Strengths and Opportunities of the Olive Oil Sector and Olive Groves Across the Mediterranean Countries and Regions

It is now clear from the analysis of the olive sector and related landscapes across the six Mediterranean countries examined in this book that there exists a high level of complexity and heterogeneity in the sector. Furthermore, such complexity results in multiple social-ecological and territorial challenges that remain largely unresolved, and that in some cases can even be considered as wicked ones, and therefore unresolvable. Thus, it is imperative to obtain an overview that can synthesize the key aspects, both positive and negative, described in detail in the previous chapters of this book, so that some light can be shed on the key question posed as a starting point for the book: What are the key opportunities and limitations for the olive sector to advance towards enhanced levels of sustainability?
