Varieties and Olive Grove Production Systems in Italy

One of the strengths in Italian olive cultivation is the unique varietal heritage. Currently, it is estimated a number of 540 olive cultivars is 42% of the world's total. Considering the cultivation systems, there is a sharp prevalence of traditional or extensive and semi-intensive olive groves with respect to super-intensive models.
