England: Renegotiating an Institution

  • Anna P. Lohse

摘要

For England, the years between 2016 until 2021 were marked by the concurrence of two historical events: the withdrawal from the EU after 47 years of membership and the COVID-19 pandemic. In this chapter, the repercussions of both disruptions are analysed by way of tracing the respective regulative, normative, and cultural-cognitive impacts on HE internationalisation. At the end of each disruption case study, the Brexit and COVID-19 findings are summarised in a table, and the respective types of overall institutional change/lack thereof are identified based on patterns of stability and change across the three institutional dimensions. Finally, the findings from both disruptions are compiled in a table in order to provide a comprehensive account of the ‘age of disruption’ in the English HE context.
