Secure Lightweight Data Communication Between the IoT Devices and Cloud Service
摘要
The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has been dramatically increasing and interacting with a large amount of data, such as human bio-meteorology [26]. IoT capacity is currently limited while the users need to securely back up these sensitive data during the processing/storage. Therefore, employing a cloud service can diminish the storage cost for IoT devices. However, the data storage can be malleable if the cloud is corrupted or is being maintained. To mitigate this problem, the IoT devices need to check/update the data periodically between the storage data in the cloud and the collecting data. An efficient secure protocol is desirable for checking/updating data between the cloud and IoT devices. In this paper, we propose an efficient secure pattern matching algorithm between the cloud and the IoT devices. The main construction relies on the XOR operator and the counter mode of block ciphers, which achieves lightweight computation matching. In addition, the proposed algorithm enables the secure checking/updating between the storage data from the cloud and the IoT’s data. Motivated by the work of Ateniese et al. [4], we strengthen our protocol that supports data verification before performing the pattern-matching algorithm. This protocol can prevent the attackers from interacting with our data illegally in the context of the corrupted cloud. Our experiments are demonstrated on a common machine as the cloud service and a Raspberry Pi 3 as the client. The performance shows that our proposed work is reasonable on constrained devices.
