Tick-Borne Infections

  • Dirk M. Elston

摘要

Ticks carry a variety of diseases including rickettsial fevers, monocytic ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, babesiosis, tularemia, borrelioses, tick-borne encephalitides, and tick typhus. They may transmit more than one pathogen at a time, such as Lyme disease concurrent with babesiosis. This chapter reviews the vectors and presentation of tick-borne illnesses as well as medical management of these diseases. Prompt recognition of skin manifestations associated with these diseases is key to timely institution of therapy and good patient outcomes.
