Blastomycosis

Blastomycosis is a rare endemic mycosis, which can lead to a chronic disseminated granulomatous infection. It is acquired through pulmonary inhalation and most commonly results in either asymptomatic infection or pneumonia. Extrapulmonary hematogenous dissemination, which is more common in the immunocompromised, can lead to cutaneous, bony or CNS infection. Anti-fungal drug therapy prevents the risk of dissemination and reactivation.
