Water Management and Mineral Issues: Need of New Times

India has 32 lakh square km surface area with limited sites and scopes of water storage sites as compared to the other continents. Its total available water resource is around 1123 km3 out of which about 690 km3 is utilizable from surface water resources and about 433 km3 from the ground water resources as per data of the year 2022. Comparing the 18% of the world’s population in India, our country has only 4 percent of its water resources. This makes India to face some grave water issues. Besides, the annual average rainfall in India is about 118 cm with its heavy precipitations in the north-eastern regions and at Western Ghats (around 400 cm). This total precipitation is washed out as “Run-off” annually into the adjoining West Bengal Sea and Arabian Sea. The geological nature of the Indian surface landmass makes it uneasy to saturate the underground water during the run-offs. India essentially needs a future plan for “Run-Off” water-budget for recycling the maximum utilization. Surface natural water in major river systems in India is also underutilization for human consumptions to solve the water scarcity. Another challenging threat in Indian water solutions is subsurface water which is also under severe deteriorating scale at different regions. The Industrial and Business development Centers in Urban areas and different types of processing plants in remote rural areas both have put an imbalance disturbing and alarming clocks among humans for survival. Another alarming scale of water study is an aspect on pharmaceutical compounds/minerals present in surface and underground water; it accounts for another challenge in coming times. Presently, India has anti-psychoactive, anti-hypertensive, anti-microbials, analgesics, stimulants as different types of pharmaceuticals class of products which cover Carbamazepine, atenolol, triclo-carbon, caffeine, ciprofloxacin, enoxacin, ketoprofen, erythromycin, naproxen, diclofenac, enrofloxacin compounds in water, as per the report of K. Balakrishna and others in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety (2017, v. 137). Industrial scenario of Water Package and Distribution Business under Water Management has another dimension of “plastic particles” in water entering the Human systems. Moreover, the persistent pharmaceutical pollutants (PPPs) usually identified in water systems affect the potential endocrine systems attacking the growth hormones even if consumed in nanogram per liter to microgram per liter concentrations. The occurrence of such particles in drinking water and potable water remains a great challenge on health aspects of the human beings. Even modern techniques have failed to removal such mineral impurities from water during any treatments on the ground of complete mineralization for better health. Such aspects in water managements is a new dimension for water management with mineral issues, is a need of the coming times.
