Morphometric Analysis and Sub-watersheds Prioritization of Shipra River, Central India, for Evaluation of Groundwater

The morphometric analysis of Shipra main and its sub-watersheds (Gambhir and Khan) was studied by using SRTM DEM data in ArcGIS 10.3, and 48 (linear, areal and relief) parameters were quantified. The variable bifurcation ratio 3–7 is significantly showing the structural control on drainage pattern. The estimated low drainage density (0.90) and low infiltration (0.48) indicate that Shipra River basin is characterized by permeable sub-soil and low runoff conditions. The groundwater potential prioritization is assigned for Gambhir, Khan and the remaining portion of the Shipra basin. Both sub-watersheds show high values in linear parameters and low value in shape parameters that specify for poor groundwater potential, less permeability and high runoff. But the Khan sub-watershed explain higher groundwater potential than the Gambhir. These research findings could be useful for planners and decision-makers to manage the watershed and natural resources.
