This chapter explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AIAI) based natural language processing (NLP) systems in addressing the challenges posed by public health crises like the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter begins with an introduction that provides background on the pandemic, the role of AI in responding to health crises, and an overview of AI-based NLP systems (AI-NLPs) and their potential applications. The subsequent sections delve into specific areas where AI-NLPs can significantly affect public health communication and information dissemination, healthcare system support, education and remote learning, social and economic support, and remote work and technological adaptation. In each area, the chapter discusses how AI-based NLP systems can help provide accurate information, support decision-making, enhance engagement, facilitate access to resources, and assist in adopting new technologies and practices.
