Collecting Ancient Egyptian Objects

In the sixteenth century, Ancient Egyptian artifacts increasingly arrived in Venice and became part of cabinets of curiosities and antiquarian collections. Gradually, more attention was paid to these objects in humanist circles and, like Greek or Roman artifacts, they contributed to the self-fashioning of the collector.
