Cairo: The “New” City and the Ancient Monuments

Venetian travelers made valuable contributions to the empirical study of Ancient Egyptian monuments in Giza. These efforts were highly appreciated by the scientific community. Thanks to their regular and sometimes prolonged presence in Egypt, travelers such as the medico di condotta Prospero AlpinoAlpino, Prospero or the master builder Tito Livio BurattiniBurattini, Tito Livio were able to study the historical monuments in depth, consulting also the local population for further information.
