Two-dimensional (2D) perovskites2D perovskites are the new engine to drive the legacy of the perovskite materialsPerovskite materials. This has diversified the relevance of the perovskite materialsPerovskite materials and has pushed the utility boundary of the materials from the limited applicability of 3-dimensional perovskitesPerovskites. 2D perovskitesPerovskites are being used independently and also in tandem with three-dimensional perovskitesPerovskites, which has broadened its scope of acceptance in terms of performance and stabilityStability. 2D perovskites2D perovskites provide adequate band alignmentAlignment, remarkable carrier mobilityCarrier mobility, low exciton binding energiesExciton binding energy, and magnificent absorptionAbsorption coefficients, making it an exciting material to explore. This chapter has discussed the structural properties of different types of 2D perovskitesPerovskites. Further, various routes of synthesizing of the 2D perovskitesPerovskites have also been discussed. In the later part, organic spacer cations, mainly monoammonium and diammonium cations, have been explored, which play an important role in defining properties and application of the 2D perovskites2D perovskites. Lastly, diverse applications of the 2D perovskitesPerovskites in light-emitting diodesLight emitting diodes (LEDs) (LEDsLight emitting diodes (LEDs)), lasers, photodetectorsPhotodetectors, photovoltaicsPhotovoltaics, and photocatalysis have also been discussed. The chapter draws insight from prevailing developments in the field of 2D perovskitesPerovskites to contribute to future perspectives on developing 2D perovskitesPerovskites as a new class of emerging materials.
