Fundamentals of Education for Sustainable Development: The Challenges of Teachers

This study seeks to understand the challenges of teachers, in a Portuguese school and in two Portuguese schools abroad, regarding the theme of education for sustainable development, supported by digital technologies and sustained in cooperation, collaboration, and solidarity, as recommended by UNESCO. Education is a fundamental pillar, where educational action aims at inclusion the achievement of learning, focusing on changing attitudes and behaviors toward the environment. It aims to understand how teachers stimulate educational practices, having different realities, where common experiencesExperience and problems are shared. The methodology of a qualitative nature, using the technique of survey by interview, with teachers (n = 8), who teach from preschool to secondary education. We have taken into account compliance with the ethical standards of the investigation, namely, the guarantee of anonymity and confidentiality of the data. The data were processed using webQDA Qualitative Data Analysis software and subjected to content analysis. The results allow us to conclude that one of the greatest challenges of the teachers was to adjust to the different contexts. They consider that cooperation and collaboration must be committed, in the involvement, mobilization, and dissemination of knowledge, in a transformative education, where the student is at the center of the teaching-learning process.
