Cadmium Sulfide Bionanoparticles for Methylene Blue Dye Removal

The aim of this study was to evaluate the removal of methylene blue using cadmium sulfide nanoparticles in colloidal solution synthesized by a methanol-water extract (70/30 v/v) from the fungal biomass of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici; it was demonstrated that these nanomaterials improve the dye removal by up to 60% under conditions of exposure to an UV light lamp during 60 min at room temperature, attributing this capacity to the catalytic effect of the NPs due to their intrinsic properties, as well as the presence of the metabolites that coat them, suggesting a synergistic effect between both. The system proposed in this work represents an alternative for the use of colloidal nanoparticles for treatment of contaminated water with azoic dyes.
