Class II Division 2 Malocclusion

Class II division 2 has very specific features that require distinctly different management for the best treatment outcome. Understanding how this malocclusion develops is crucial and this chapter first introduces the definition and salient features of Class II division 2 malocclusion followed by its prevalence in some populations. The aetiology related to the skeletal pattern and facial growth, dentoalveolar causes and soft tissue causes are then explored. Extraoral, intraoral and lateral cephalometric features are described and related to its aetiology. Various types of treatment, ranging from interceptive treatment, fixed appliance camouflage treatment to combined orthognathic treatment, highlighting timing and various methods to address specific difficulties related to Class II division 2 are explained in detail.
