AI Enhanced Processing of Large Parts: Volume Monitoring and Control of Robotic Gluing Application

This paper proposes an AI-driven approach leveraging stereo cameras and fuzzy logic enhanced PID control for monitoring and optimization of adhesive deposition while compensating for disturbances during the path following process. The suggested approach is based on point cloud processing acquired by a low-cost stereo vision system. The proposed approach has been validated in a deposition of glue case study coming from the bus and coach sector. A comparative study on the performance of mesh-based and voxels-based methods for volume calculation using point clouds has also been conducted. The results demonstrate that the precision and accuracy of the voxel-based method is better and promising enough to pave the way for expanding the application of the proposed approach to other path following robot processes.
