Pediatric Psychopharmacology Integration with Family Therapy

In this chapter, we will describe a framework for formulating family system challenges relevant to pediatric psychopharmacology via a structural family therapy perspective. We will provide pediatric psychopharmacologists with family therapy-informed guidance for moving through treatment-refractory pediatric mental illness impasses. We will also offer specific strategies to enhance provider collaboration with the family system. We will highlight challenges that prescribers may encounter and describe approaches to address these challenges, drawing from case examples (adjusted to protect the privacy of patients and their families).
