Introduction

Steel is being created from natural raw materials or recycled materials in a continuous process through a chain of consecutive stages that ultimately lead to finished goods, such as slabs, sheets, or coils, that are being used in many industries, such as automotive, machinery, construction, etc., as one of the most important input material. This chapter gives an overview of the current state of steel making technology as well as the state of the art of planning and scheduling in steel making by means of a widely used IT system.
